Session Five

How do we know that students have made progress?

This session introduces assessment as a way of understanding student progress. Industry Associates explore how assessment is used in FE, with a particular focus on practical and informal approaches they may use when supporting teaching and learning. The session looks closely at diagnostic assessment, helping Industry Associates consider how they can understand students’ starting points and use that insight to shape their expert inputs.

Industry Associates will:

  • Understand the concept of assessment and its uses in FE teaching and learning.
  • Explore different types of assessment and the likely scope of an Industry Associate’s involvement.
  • Recognise assessment as an ongoing process of understanding and responding to student progress.
  • Examine diagnostic assessment techniques.
  • Consider how diagnostic assessment can inform the design and delivery of learning experiences.
